जीएसटी- बहुत कठिन है डगर पनघट की

gst

Time has come to take steps to secure our virtual freedom

Concept behind the design of social media is somehow related to the formation of an identity and understanding of self through the interactions with other known or unknown individuals. In a very short lapse of time, it has experienced widespread popularity within our society. A medium that was known for its unique identity-space, for space less, is slowly but sharply losing its flavor. Here, someone’s freedom has suddenly become a threat for someone else. But the bigger part is- the threat is pointed towards an individual, targeted by a group or gathering with certain cemented mindset. There are never ending list of incidents that tried to hammer the freedom which an individual enjoys on social media sites. I am not going to serialize all but the most recent one.

Yakub’s hanging

Yes, it’s Yakub’s hanging. That day, the way populace got divide on the social platforms reflects that we are living in a democratic setup, where each has the right to put their opinion in public domain. But the way few extremist reacted over the individual’s free voice/opinion; it had almost murdered the freedom of speech and expression, assigned to each one by the Constitution of India. Social activist cum advocates Prashant Bhushan’s steps of approaching the highest court in the last minute for Yakub got many “patriotic” sentiments hurt. “People with true nationalistic approach” used all kinds of trolls to abuse Bhushan on each social-sites platform. False messages, edited photos with dirty slogans and horrible cartoon images were spread with a message on bottom, like, “if you are a true Indian, forward this or only Pakistan supporters will not share this or a true Hindu will not ignore this”. Patriotism had gone on sale. People were just a click away from either being a true patriotic or a traitor.

I am not interested in knowing who generated or formed these texts or images. But what bothered me is how even a well educated person, in tandem with 24*7 information and technology tools, got influenced by such destructive content. People used their internet connection to forward those man-made false-facts, instead of verifying it first. Before spreading such lies, one should have thought that if he is trying to do something anti-national, why would the highest court of India said “yes” to his appeal at the mid-night? Who know our constitution in best- is it the highest court of the land or the ‘creator of such messages’?

When it came to Salman

In a similar scenario, what happened to Salman’s tweets? Continuous religion-centric Dirty abuse forced Mr. Khan to DELETE his tweet. Flash mob decide the direction Mr. Khan’s virtual opinion should go. They snatched the virtual space of Mr. Khan. IT IS HORRIFYING how those UNCONTROLLED virtual mass acquired the VIRTUAL space AND TROLLED Salman.

Like previous incidents, a message circulating on Social Media sites stated “Eminent persons request President of India to consider Yakub Memon mercy plea.” This news was correct, but again the catalog which was distributed on different medium FLASHED many names which had no connection with it (like Ravish Kumar- Journalist @ NDTV). The list was well accessible and available on different news websites with full text, but only a few bothered to cross check the specifics and rest joined the “League of distribution”.

Some scholar defined the happenings as a hate inclined towards one particular religion. But if one arranges the sliding tiles puzzle in a sequence, it will reflect a particular kind of image painted with a selective color. Both Prashant Bhushan and Ravish Kumar belong to Hinduism and Salman Khan is Muslim, but they targeted all three. So, there were no religion based selections.

The majority of them who were involved in the message circulation system were loaded with an agenda and rest were following them like an Unguided-Mob or Mentally-Backward individuals. Most of them have no actual profile pictures, many accounts were looking nearly dead with only a small number of selective posts on few selective dates. It seemed like, many profiles belong to some invisible or SOME BARBARIC INDIVIDUALS.

Time has come when we have to take steps to secure our virtual freedom. We got this medium as a blessing for expressing our voice and we have to guard this. Social media sites’ owners and their strategist must think about the safety, security and some verification methods of both the content and the individuals. For example like linking individuals profile with their mobile number, Aadhar Card, OPT secure login system, only one profile allotted to one individual, fortnightly or monthly verification of profiles …etc. I know it seems very tough, but it’s not impossible. It may sound funny today, but very shortly we all will be in a queue for this demand. It’s not the matter of numbers of profile or fake profile but our freedom of speech and expression. We all have the right of free speech, but one doesn’t require a fake identity (either real or virtual) to use it.

A never-ending list can be drawn where few disturbing element used this platform to spread anti-national messages and tried very hard to break unity and bonds which people of this country share with each others. Fake rumors against The North-East people, Mehdi Masroor’s arrest for operating ISIS Twitter account, are only a few but shocking cases regarding media miss-conduct.

In real life, fake identity is dangerous for Nation but it is hazardous in the virtual world especially in a democratic setup. Save this medium to speak truth freely otherwise very soon people will stop believing in “What’s in your mind or tweet”. Spread the Truth and Report Abuse or misleading information.

Is it for style or For Respect

On the eve of 15th August every school, offices, shops organised functions, decorated their walls with tricolours. The entire country was in full swing of patriotism.  But what about it’s after effects? Everybody gets fully engrossed in decorations, nobody ever thinks about what will happen to those stuff. After the ‘D Day’ is over all gets dumped in the dustbin. The same goes with our flag. It is just a one day use after that one can see flags lying on the road near garbage. All respect gets crushed under the running vehicles.

On the other hand when we look about the Pre buzz for Independence Day, the only patriotic word was Selfie. Every other day one word is attached with selfie title. The next on the list and the most current one was #SaluteSelfie. When 15th August was near, India began to gear for the annual celebrations of freedom won at the stroke of midnight in the year 1947.

But beyond the usual celebrations, it is important to try and follow the mood of the people to understand how we feel about the day and what it means to us. The older generation, especially those born around 1947 still feel a strong sense of connecting and belonging to the struggle that their parents had to go through to achieve freedom from British rule, but for the younger generation of today, what significance does 15th August hold beyond a holiday is- The time to THINK and create CHANGE by following the trend of #SaluteSelfie.

I would like to end with few questions that need to be solved by We Indians!

Had the army fought for only one day to make us Independent?

Is the respect and pride for only a day?

The politics of DNA in Bihar

Politics in India has evolved over the time. There was a time when the leaders were polite even while targeting the opposition. Over the time, the politicians have started using an aggressive language that will capture the attention of the masses.
Indian Prime Minister is proficient in seeking the attention of the public by his speeches. He has given many catchphrases to the public through his speeches. Undoubtedly, he is a good orator, and many wait for his political address.
Recently while addressing a political rally in Bihar, PM Modi stated that THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE DNA OF NITISH KUMAR BECAUSE THE DNA OF DEMOCRACY IS NOT LIKE THAT, IN DEMOCRACY PEOPLE RESPECT THEIR POLITICAL RIVALS . His comment came in view of the broken alliance of BJP and JDU. Nitish, who was in alliance with the BJP since 2005 and ran a successful government, had broken up the alliance after eight years in 2013. The major reason for their separation is said to be Nitish Kumar’s displeasure with Modi’s Prime Ministership.
Modi’s comment did not go well with Bihar CM. He expressed his displeasure with the every possible way. He and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav asked PM to take back his words and started a campaign called Shabd Vapsi. He used social media to show his displeasure and even wrote a letter to PM saying his DNA was the DNA of the people of Bihar.
After exploring all the avenues when Bihar CM felt that enough wasn’t said and done, he came up with a unique political stunt to grab the eyeballs. He has said that as a part of Shabd Wapsi campaign 50 lakh people of Bihar will send their hair and nail samples for the DNA tests that will cost more than $500m if done.
The political gimmick of Nitish is childish. He is trying to win over the sentiments of people by talking about Bihari pride. Mr. Kumar has forgotten that it is the same state which had given a mandate to him for progress and development, and those people have the political maturity to understand his play.
This campaign seems to have a negative impact rather than gaining positive numbers. It will altogether hurt the sentiments of the Bihari people and might trigger a sentiment against him. His alliance with RJD, which was earlier the biggest opposition has already made people sceptical about his political motives.
Instead of indulging in petty politics, he should work towards the development of the state. The state that still has the literacy rate of 69.83% needs to focus on something that will altogether contribute to its enhancement.
In Bihar, the elections are won, and politics is done majorly on the issues of caste. It is a high time when the people of Bihar need to realise that it is important to rise above caste politics to cope up with the progress of other states.

A Wishy-Washy debate

#lalitgate- it has been almost two months since we are hearing this word and till date no conclusion has been found in this case. The same has been the reason for the Lok Sabha debate on this topic. Don’t know, how many of our MPs were present during the debate and how many of them were not absent minded?

Leaving behind the other primary problems to debate in India this #lalitgate was of the top most priority. Health Insurance scheme for disabled person bill, food and drought control bill, national food security bill, prevention of girl trafficking etc have been the few examples of the bills still pending in the Loksabha. But instead of showing light on these issues the debate was on something which had no base and no way to where it is going.

The war went on and on between Congress’ Vice President Rahul Gandhi and India’s foreign minister  Sushma Swaraj, which diverted from their main agenda of knowing the reason behind the birth of what lalitgate was all about. Bombardment of dialogues in the Lok Sabha is not a new thing to see but yes the appropriate dialogue aimed at the right person was something to stick to. Arun Jaitley quoted Rahul Gandhi as “He is expert without knowledge. Sushma Swaraj straightaway, made fun of Rahul by telling him to go back and read their patriarchal history of corruption stories. And not leaving the most awaited dialogue of the day “The Nation Wants to know” by

Sushma. Later-on like all other debate is not completed till it has an authentication of showing on Arnab Goswami’s Prime time show, this lalitgate hour was also not a hit. With Arnab shouting over to the panellist about the reason why Sushma used his patent dialogues and why not gave the answer of all relevant questions which nation wants to know.

Like any other debate on the news hour, this one too ended without any conclusion and in a big fight without any reason. Just a halla-bol show Lok Sabha debate was no better than the content for News Hour debate!!!

Pakistan Sex Scandal

Pakistan has been battling with numerous issues. The internal crisis in Pakistan has gone to new heights with the future of Pakistan being grim. The recent child abuse case in the village of Husain Khanwala and other villages in Kasur district of Punjab province is said to be one of the largest ever child abuse case.

The case came to light last week after 400 video recordings of more than 280 children being forced to have sex was discovered. Many were beaten and drugged and forced to indulge in Oral sex.

The case involves nearly 300 children who were forced to indulge in various sexual acts by a gang of almost 25 youths from the village. The act has also been recorded. It is a clear case of pedophilia. This is not the first time in the country. Pakistan experienced a similar tragedy in the late 1990s when 100 children were sexually abused and murdered in Lahore by Javed Iqbal Mughal, a serial killer.

Several questions have been put forth by the incident. Most importantly the heinous act of Pedophilia comes to light again. Time and again the innocence of numerous across the globe have been murdered by the mental disorder of the accused.

The issue is not limited to just one country, it is a global problem that needs to be dealt with utter sensitivity.

In 2006, the Britain’s one of the worst pedophile was sentenced to 20 years in jail. Robert Smith admitted that over 30 years he had preyed 21 children many of which were toddlers. He raped them and used them as sex playthings. Many of his victims developed serious mental disorders.

This is just an example from a country. The internet is flooded with articles on worst cases of pedophilia from around the globe. According to a report in International Business Times, the top 5 countries with the highest rate of sexual abuse are South Africa, India, Zimbabwe, United Kingdom and the United States respectively.

The idea to write this article is to instigate the thought that Pedophilia is a serious disorder that needs to be discussed. As a journalist, I encountered several problems in writing a story on pedophilia.

It is difficult to recognize who is suffering from the disorder. Moreover, I realized that the social stigma with the disorder is so much that pedophile finds it hard to discuss it and find a solution.

A pedophile needs a lot of self-control and counseling to refrain from entering into any act of pedophilia. Therefore, it is necessary that the society remove the blot and help a pedophile deal with it rather than leaving him in seclusion to turn into an offender.

If it is Pakistan today, it can be India also. We need to understand that seclusion and secrecy have higher chances of a crime being committed. As a society, it is our responsibility to provide each child a social security. Such acts only push these children to utter darkness leaving an impression on their tender minds.

Menstruating while you are running a marathon? Painful isn’t?

Kiran Gandhi, a Harvard graduate had trained hard for the London Marathon. But a day before the Marathon she realized she was going to be on her period. Though at first she decided to drop it but later she realized how important the marathon was for her and for the society. So breaking all the social obstacles, Kiran thought of stepping out and completed the entire 26.2 miles marathon.

In her blog, she writes, “I got my flow the night before and it was a total disaster, but I didn’t want to clean it up. It would have been way too uncomfortable to worry about a tampon for 26.2 miles. I thought, if there’s one person society won’t fuck with, it’s a marathon runner. If there’s one way to transcend oppression, it’s to run a marathon in whatever way you want. On the marathon course, sexism can be beaten. Where the stigma of a woman’s period is irrelevant, and we can re-write the rules as we choose. I ran with blood dripping down my legs for sisters who don’t have access to tampons and sisters who, despite cramping and pain, hide it away and pretend like it doesn’t exist. I ran to say, it does exist, and we overcome it every day. The marathon was radical and absurd and bloody in ways I couldn’t have imagined until the day of the race”.

Though the whole talk was quite inspiring for me, but my most favourite moment was when I came to know that her father and brother also participated in the marathon to support her. When I had my first period it was so embarrassing for me to go in front of my father but when I hear something like this, it’s truly inspiring.

5 Reasons Why Bihar Elections is extremely’ Important for BJP

With Bihar Elections approaching fast, every party is eyeing to secure a decent victory in this do or die test. The BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) has a tough competition from the lethal combination of its opponents. RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal), JDU (Janata Dal United) and Congress will force BJP to put in every effort to secure the majestic Modi wave effect in the state which is the hotbed for politics.

  1. It is said that it was Party president, Amit Shah’s strategy which lead BJP to a victory in the Lok Sabha elections 2014 but the same strategist had to taste defeat in the Delhi Assembly Polls. The reason behind was the strong opposition in Delhi, so is the case in Bihar. With RJD, JDU and Congress together, Amit Shah will have to put an extra ordinary effort for the elections in the state. The anti-incumbency factor against Congress worked favourably in 2014 but the case is very different in 2015 state elections.
  1. The rocky start of the Monsoon Session will not prove much productive for the government. The entire session is expected to have hullabaloo over the Vyapam Scam and Lalit Gate controversy. In such a scene it is impossible for government to pass key legislations like GST Bill and Land Acquisition Bill due to lack of majority in Rajya Sabha. If BJP secures good numbers in Bihar the road will automatically be easy in the upper house of the parliament also. In the view of 2019 general elections, Bihar is very important for the BJP.
  2. BJP is currently dominating the half Hindi belt- Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Jharkhand. Victory in Bihar would add a feather to the cap. It would also give BJP an edge in the UP elections in 2017 which is again a significant factor in deciding the power at the centre.
  1. According to sources, the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) is not happy with the working of Modi Sarkar and many letters have been shot off to the RSS head Mohan Bhagwat in Nagpur. Modi wave might get dull in Bihar due to the lack of visible work done by the government in past 14 months.
  1. There is a wave of unhappiness within the BJP over Shah’s working. Many BJP workers are not happy with him. Many even term him as an autocrat who has full support of Narendra Modi. According to sources, many BJP MPs and workers find him unreachable. If BJP looses Bihar polls, Shah might not be able to renew his president ship which is due in January 2016.

It is very clear that BJP will not let go Bihar easily. Post Delhi, Shah and BJP will find out some way to maintain the momentum of victory. It has already launched 160 GPS enabled chariots to carry the message of change to the voters. Prime Minister is all set to launch the campaign “Booth Jeetenge toh Chunaav Jeetenge” on July 25. It will focus on campaigning at the block and Panchayat level.

Though BJP won 13 out of 24 seats in the legislative council elections in Bihar, the atmosphere is very different for the state assembly elections and BJP will have to pull up the socks. Earlier BJP was in Bihar with the NDA alliance which has JDU in it but now with the alliance broken, it would be interesting to see the battle unfold.

The left leaning students of FTII should give Chauhan a chance

The controversy surrounding Gajendra Singh Chauhan’s appointment as the Film and Television Institute of India’s chairman does not seem to dry down. The students of this prestigious institute have gone on indefinite strike since June 12 protesting Chauhan’s appointment.

FTII has been known to be an institute with one of the most heterogeneous and creative minds. Mithun Chakraborty, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Shatrughan Sinha, Prakash Jha are among a few of talented alumnus to be named.

Chauhan is best known for his role played as Yudhishthira in Mahabharat TV series aired during 1988-1990. Chauhan has majorly played several roles in TV soaps which were not highly rated. Moreover in the initial years of his career he appeared in several B grade movies.

Favouritism can easily be sensed

However the association with BJP for almost two decades worked in his favour of Chauhan. He formally joined the party in 2004. During the Lok Sabha elections last year Chauhan had extensively campaigned for the BJP in Haryana. Favouritism can easily be sensed from his appointment as his credentials are a clear sign of his relation with BJP led NDA government.

It will lead to a compromise over the quality of leadership

According to the students Chauhan’s appointment will lead to a compromise over the quality of leadership since the people who have held the position of chairman in the past include luminaries like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Girish Karnad, U.R. Ananthamurthy, and Shyam Benegal, who have graced Indian theatre, cinema and literature. Most of them have won National Award but Chauhan has none to his name.

I&B ministry’s petty excuse

Government has been defending the appointment of Chauhan. In a reply to an RTI filed by Indian Express, the governing council of FTII said that many eminent people had turned down the post which left I&B Ministry with very less options. The authorities say that the decision regarding the appointment of Chauhan was taken after wide consultation.

Not happening for the first time in IIFT

Chauhan’s appointment seems to be a politically motivated decision but it is not for the first time the institute is witnessing anything like that. FTII’s last chairman, was Saeed Mirza, who besides being a renowned film-maker, was also a signatory of the Anti-Modi appeal from Bollywood, just before Lok Sabha elections last year.

Former chairmen like Girish Karnad & Prof. U.R. Ananthamurthy formed a group called “Samakaleena Vichara Vedike” with the sole intention of opposing Modi and extending full support to the Congress in Lok Sabha elections. For an organization which has always been in the clutches of Anti-Modi, Pro-Congress to adjust to under the BJP can indeed be hard.

The left lenient students of FTII should give Chauhan a chance

The students of FTII have known to be of leftist mindset which is again a strong reason for the students to oppose a man from the BJP.

Eminent personalities from the film fraternity like Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan, Salim Khan, Kiran Rao are amongst the few supporting the students.

Though Chauhan is not a big name in the industry, he should be given a chance to prove himself. If he still lags behind the students have freedom to oppose him.

Uber: It seems a never ending problem

Uber has been fined in California and will be suspended from operating as Uber failed to give the California Public Utilities Commission the information on how many rides were requested and accepted within each California zip code, how many users requested handicap accessible vehicles, and the cause of each accident involving an Uber driver.

The ruling, by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recommended that Uber pay a $7.3 million fine and meet certain reporting requirements within 30 days or be suspended from operating in California.

Now why was the whole process incorporated? The data requests are part of a 2013 law in California which is meant to ensure that ride-hailing apps like Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar don’t discriminate against people because of handicaps or where they live. According to the CPUC, Uber is the only such company to fail to meet their requirements.

Now what has Uber to say about it? Spokeswoman Eva Behrend said that Uber has already provided substantial amounts of data to the California Public Utilities Commission.

The most interesting part of the case is California is Uber’s home market. It may not take it seriously in India but if it fails to comply with the wishes of the authorities of California then it’s sure that it will lose its base. And one thing Uber should have learnt by now that is just creating jobs and expanding the business is not enough but a company should be good at the thought it started laid its foot. In this case being a good taxi operator. But the loads of complaints doesn’t really show the same.
