A game that takes away life – Blue Whale Challenge

Is it Gaming or Murdering

A game that takes away life! A game that asks people to commit suicide! Why is it called a game, why not a murder attack? ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ the horrifyingly dangerous game that has taken at least 130 teen deaths across Russia. It is a 50-day challenge in which the administrator gives a certain task to the member to adhere to. But mind it! tasks are like horrific ones that include harming oneself, watching horror movies in the late night, waking up at unusual hours. Gradually getting more extreme like carving a specific phrase on the person’s own hand, poking a needle in the arm or leg or as dreadful as a whale.

When was it started

Originating in the year 2013, in Russia with “F57”, one of the names of the then-called “death group” of the Vkontakte (largest European online social networking service, like Facebook). Allegedly causing first suicide in 2015. Since then it has become a trend and many teenagers are getting accused of it.

Why again it is in news

Now, recently not only in Russia and UK but in India also it is believed to have taken the shape. A 14-year-old boy from Andheri, Mumbai, committed suicide and has carved a fish on his arm with a needle. His mobile phone is with the state forensic science laboratory and investigations are going on so as to find out if there was any link with the group of ‘Blue Whale challenge.’ As reported in HT, “No link so far between Mumbai teen’s suicide, Blue Whale challenge,” said Police.

But the question is why people are so harsh and what is making them take up such challenge- Is it the trend or the competition that is compelling the teenagers into killing themselves.

Police are warning people to stop doing this cruel activity with their body. Also, social platforms have taken a step ahead to stop this challenge, like Instagram has started showing users a warning when they search for pictures relating to Blue Whale. We should also look beside us and find out if any unwanted activity is happening with our friends. DustbinDubba urges you to ‘Take a challenge to stop Blue Whale Challenge!’
